Welcome back in time to when the Nazi's and Hitler were the big cats of Germany. A plan is being set into motion that will change Eliezer's life forever. He lives in a Jewish family in a small village in Hungary, but soon their lives will be stolen. They were taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp and separated, vanishing into the night as the men walked left and the women right. How can people torture adults and children, because of their religion? Tons of people are in Auschwitz, all treated the same way. Can Elie and his father escape this nightmare and bring the family together again? Is it too late for his mother and seven year old sister Tzipora? How can their lives evade them along with the black smoke forever leaving the chimney? I really liked this book and enjoyed reading it for my ELA Holocaust report. Thank you to Mrs. Hundeby for recommending it to me. This book gets a 5 words out of 5 from me. Might be found in the school library.
