Julie

I'm finally home with my father, I have missed him so much since I got lost in the wilderness for months, surviving only because of my beloved wolf pack. They saved my life, and I shall always protect them and love them, just like my father. But father has given up many of our Eskimo ways for that ones that his new wife has in Minnesota. He owns snowmobiles and now is relying on industry. Maybe I was hoping that nothing would change, that father wouldn't have chosen to marry a woman that is not Eskimo, maybe I was hoping that he would be like I left him. He is still my father, and Ellen can't be so bad; it still hurts to know that Kapugen is willing to shoot any wolf that attacks his herd, even if they are the ones that saved my life. I must save them if I must, they are my family too, but will I have to give up my father again to do so? I just got him back.

This book was an excellent addition to the first book; this book carries on directly after the first so its helpful if you read them in order. I recommend this book to dog lovers or people who really love animals and they way live. 5 words out of 5 since I was a huge fan of the first book. Might be found in the school library, ask Mrs. Yusik for confirmation.

Parvana's Journey by Deborah Ellis

He's dead, and now I'm all alone. What will I do now? I could continue on, looking for mother and my siblings, but it hurts too much to think that if they ask, I'll have to say that he died; its all my fault. I must find them, the Taliban can't stop me, even if I am a girl that is dressing like a boy; I'll find my family, just like I'll continue to make letters to Shauzia about what I'm going through, and hoping that she made it to France and is happy and safe. I know that everything won't be like it use to when I find mother and give her the magazine, and I know that a magical place where children don't starve doesn't exist in Afghanistan, but every journey can be defined not by the means of travelling or how long it takes, its what happens and who you meet on the way there. I've got three other children with me now, they are all apart of my family, and I shall travel with them until we find what we're looking for.

This is a really good story that I had to read for my ELA class, and I'm happy that I chose it. It really shows you how wrong some parts of the world can get if we don't help; it gets pretty sad if the constant planes flying over head dropping bombs is something that a kid can get used to. 4 words out of 5. Can be found in the school library.

Willow

They're dead, and its all my fault. I relive that night again and again, I can still remember the sights and the sounds. I always expected them to die when I moved out of the house, when I didn't need them so desperately, but now I'm my brothers problem. He tends to think I'm getting better ever since I met Guy, and sometimes I feel better too; but now he knows about my secret way of not feeling. He looks at the marks with disgust, I don't like them either but they mark a hidden war that has gone from inside of me, to scarring the flesh. I need them, they make sure I don't have to feel the guilt that is just one thought away, they make sure I don't have to cry. My razors are cheap and they work; just because I'm not strong enough to deal with the pain head on, doesn't mean I want to die. My brother would be devastated if he knew, but is it better that he has to take care of a kid that's not his, and his own daughter? I wish he would just call me the murderer I am already. I liked this book tons, it has lots of feeling and sometimes can confuse you. I give this book a 4.5 words out of five because I can't imagine why her parents would make her drive on a night like that. Ask Mrs. Yuzik if we have it in the library; and if we don't, ask her to get it for the library.

Our Plane is Down by Doug Paton

Who would have ever guessed that a guy who's afraid of heights, and his little sister who is always in trouble, would get into a plane accident. Here we are, in the middle of a B.C. forest with the pilot unconscious, no actual food, and the plane had fallen off a cliff and then exploded. This all wouldn't have happened if Missi and I weren't so stupid when life was easier. Now I have to get over my fear of heights and find help before something even worse can get us other than the millions of mosquitoes at night. This book was interesting, but wasn't really something I would generally read. I give this book a 2 words out of 5 because it was super short and could have been a lot more descriptive. This would be a pretty good book to read if you were having to do a short novel stuff, but only a short one. This book can be found in the school library.

Tell

My stepfather is dead, and my brother Jamie died a few years ago. Now its just me and my mother, but the police aren't going to give up the investigation. A few questions are asked and then I'm a suspect, it seems my poker face isn't as great as I thought. But I never killed Phil, honestly. I never really liked the guy, but that doesn't mean I'm going to shoot him. A lie can always be caught if someone knows what tell you have. This was an interesting story that actually taught me a little bit about poker. I give this book a 3 words out of 5 because the characters could be a little more developed. This book can be found in the school library.

Battle of the Bands by K.L. Denman

Music is my passion, and my life. Playing guitar for my band The Lunar Ticks is a dream come true, if only we could win that contest. The one band that is a huge competition of ours is awesome and killer, and so is she. Rowan is a mystery to me, she is someone that I want to get to know more; but I can't let her know that. The band is up and ready for the contest, but my moon lit walks during the full moon aren't taking me to life like it usually does. I want to write a song about passion and desires, which makes me think about Rowan. Whether we win or lose, Rowan will be the biggest prize I can't afford to lose. A really good book that takes you to a group of friends that have talent, but working together can make anything better. I give this book a 4 words out of 5 because it was interesting and some of the songs spoken of in this book can be very meaningful. Can be found in the school library.

Scum

He's my brother, but he was no angel. Danny was shot in a bar and everyone in my family was devastated. Nobody saw anything, nobody heard anything at the bar. I want to know who killed him and torn apart my family from the seams. If Danny were still alive I would tell him how stupid he is, saying that he'll never get caught. The police know who he is, making nobody care that he died; but I care. I will find out who killed him, but will things go too far before I learn the truth? You'll never know with the people that Danny hung out with. This was a really interesting book, I personally couldn't figure out why the boy got shot in the beginning but it grew clearer as the book progressed. I give this book a 4 words out of 5 for all the suspense. Can be found in the school library.

Dead-End Job by Vicki Grant

It all started the day I met Devin. I was working my shift when a kid came in and bought a chocolate bar; but then he came back. He seemed a little strange and I kept seeing him everywhere; he was interested in the same things I was and could always make me laugh. He was not my boyfriend Leo though; Leo was nice but not the sharpest nail in the house. Devin seemed to be trying though, really hard; that's when things started to change. I found out he isn't who I thought he was and he then he gave me pictures of myself outside and around town. I never saw that night coming, but thank god Kyla had a weird feeling about him. This was a really short book to me, but it was really good. I wish the book were longer so it could be more descriptive and the plot could be stretched on longer. I give this book a 3 words out of 5 for being too short. Can be found in the school library.

Zombie Queen of Newbury High

My name is Mia, and I have an addiction to the television. I'm in love with Buffy and Angel, but not even the best T.V. show could prepare me for what was to come. You see there's this guy, and he's a total hot football god; he's one of the popular guys, and he asked me to prom. Now me and Candice have to find a way to get Samantha's razor claws out of him before prom, but could something as harmless as a spell become the end of their senior year? Or can the mysterious Chase Miller help Mia from being the main course at Senior prom? I really enjoyed this book, from beginning to end. I loved that humor was thrown into the mix to make it even more enjoyable. I truly hope lots of people will read this book. I give it a 5 words out of 5 for sure. You can find it in the school library in the New Books section. Happy reading!

Betrayed by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast

Finally everything is normal, well as normal as it can get. Zoey Redbird isn't the girl she was before, but now she knows who she truly is. She has everything at the House of Night, but can the Goddess Nyx actually have something up her sleeve that nobody saw coming? Can a fellow Fledgling or Vampyre be killing teenage humans? Everything that's happening is being pointed at the House of Night, but is it them? Zoey is in a whirl wind of catastrophe as she struggles with her boyfriend. Make that boyfriends. Things get even worse when the unthinkable happens in the school that trains the Fledgling, making them prepared for becoming a full fledged Vampyre. Will Zoey survive a school that isn't as safe as they say it is? Can Zoey ever get over being betrayed? Its been a while since I read this book, but I still admire the series and the authors. I love to read about the supernatural and this book really gave me the whole deal. Teens who are almost Vampyres, actual Vampyres, and a school based structure. This is actually the second book in the House of Night series, and I suggest you read the first book first. You don't generally have to but it makes it easier then jumping into the series. I gave this book a 4. This book can be found in the school library.

Keeping You a Secret

Her life was like a tornado, everything was getting jumbled and confused. Holland is in her senior year of high school, doesn't know if she wants to go to college, and has a boyfriend who wants to one thing when they are alone. Everything was so much easier when her friends were all about hanging out and sleepovers, but now everything has changed. Holland saw her in her locker mirror, and couldn't stay away. She was so nice, a true best friend, or something else? Will Holland survive the first semester of senior year and her mother who is completely controlling her life? Nobody knows besides Cece. When I began reading this book, I thought it was about something a little different, nothing so complex. I really could see each character in my minds eye, I'm happy I stuck through to the end. I'm not sure who would like this book, but if your willing to try it, I'm encouraging you. I'm really trying to show everyone the brilliance of books, and this is how I do it. I rate this book a 4.5 words out of 5. Can be found at the school library and happy reading!

This Is What I Did by Ann Dee Ellis

I'm being accused of something I didn't do, but what did I do? Did I just stand there, paralysed, imagining what could be going on in the room down the hall? Did I just walk away when I could have been helping my best friend? Did I just let him sit outside my window while I ignored him? Everything I did and didn't do, is swirling around me, I'm unable to talk about it. Will I actually take the blame of being a molester? What will I do if the one person who's talking to me, doesn't like what I tell her. She wants the truth, so this is my story; this is what I did. All I can say is wow. For some strange reason I was crying during parts of this book. All of the frustration from the main character seeps through the pages of this book, making you feel it too. The topic was something I never expected, but still I kept on reading, and I'm happy I did. I enjoyed this book so I'll give it a 5 words out of 5. This book I would recommend to almost anyone, it isn't long so you can for sure finish it. It can be found in the school library. Happy reading!

Night

Welcome back in time to when the Nazi's and Hitler were the big cats of Germany. A plan is being set into motion that will change Eliezer's life forever. He lives in a Jewish family in a small village in Hungary, but soon their lives will be stolen. They were taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp and separated, vanishing into the night as the men walked left and the women right. How can people torture adults and children, because of their religion? Tons of people are in Auschwitz, all treated the same way. Can Elie and his father escape this nightmare and bring the family together again? Is it too late for his mother and seven year old sister Tzipora? How can their lives evade them along with the black smoke forever leaving the chimney? I really liked this book and enjoyed reading it for my ELA Holocaust report. Thank you to Mrs. Hundeby for recommending it to me. This book gets a 5 words out of 5 from me. Might be found in the school library.

Mirror Image by K.L. Denman

Who would have thought two different girls could be so much alike? They are complete mirror images of each other. One wears pink and is popular, while the other where's black and wants to be forgotten. They don't really like each other but because of them being so different, their teacher paired them up for the last art project their doing. Lacey and Sable must find quotes for each other that could go on the back of their mirrors, could miss pretty n pink have enough brain to pick a quote for Sable? And can Sable find a quote for someone she doesn't want to get to know? Their lives are about to be changed, with one look in a mirror. This was a short book with big letters, which was kind of disappointing but it was worth it. A really good book and thank you to Kristen for showing it to me. I give this book a 3.5 words out of 5. Found in the school library.

If I Stay

Life is like music, every cord makes a different noise. You have to adjust it to the life you want. Mia can only adjust her life if she decides to stay alive. A terrible car crash has left a dent in her life and now her body is in a coma. Nobody knows if she'll ever wake up again. But Mia can still see and hear everyone. She found her body in the ditch next to the road. So is she dead? If she were dead her body wouldn't be in the hospital. Her family wouldn't be waiting to see her. She wouldn't have to watch her boyfriend, Adam, watch her lifeless body. So she sits and waits for death to come. But death doesn't come. She can choose to die and be with her family, or stay and live through this grief. Can Mia adjust the tune of her life like she does with her Cello? Or will she die and leave her only true love to blame himself. For her not being able to have children, go to Julliard, get married, or even to grow up. It all rests in her hands. I LOVED this book. I suggest this book to absolutely everyone. 5 words out of 5 because this book is Brilliant!

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Outcast. Melinda Sordino is an outcast. She had called the police during an end of the summer party, now she is hated by all. Her ex-best friends don't talk to her and neither does anyone else. Except IT. IT ruined her life, now she is alone. She is only safe in her head. But being alone with her thoughts isn't safe either, she's trying hard to forget what happened that night. At the party, she was changed. Can her warning on the bathroom stall about guys to stay away from help her save Rachel from the same fate as hers? Will anyone talk to her again? Will she ever have a reason to speak? I really loved this book and finished it on the 2nd day I got it. If something like that happened to me, I'd probably do that same thing as her. Try to forget. A 5 words out of 5 for making me cry. Doesn't take much for me to cry but this book had me bawling.

Burned

Zoey is in trouble again, only this time if she dies the world with officially end. Zoey is a Vampyre High Priestess who can control all the elements. But her soul has been shattered when her human consort Heath Luck was killed by the fallen immortal Kalona. The Otherworld is where she must discover the mysteries hidden in Kramisha's poem, but she's losing bits of her soul and memory as she and Heath hide out in the grove of Nyx. What if she can't get back? Stark is trembling with anger and himself while he's stuck on Earth with Zoey's empty shell, how will he protect his Queen? I personally liked this book but it was out of sorts compared to the others. The ending kinda felt rushed a bit and cut off more then the others could ever have. I give this book a 3 words out of 5 for trying. I seriously don't know what happened, its like someone else wrote this entire book just on bland notes.

Betrayal. Twice in one day for Chloe, and now she's in the Edison Group's clutches. Now the only choice Chloe has is to escape and get back to Simon and Derek. She could also be the one to rat them out when they had planned to escape. And then theirs Rae. With the power of fire at her finger tips, she could help them but she doesn't want to go. She also can't believe that several of the kids she once knew at Lyle House are dead. But once they do meet up, where will they go? What will they do? Chloe's worry metre has spiked up a notch once she sees there's a half million dollar price tag on her head thanks to her father. Can Chloe take another Chewing out from Derek and Tori? Or will her world collapse around her? I personally love this book and love this series. Just so you know, this is the second book in the series. The Summoning is the first and The Reckoning is the last so far. Another 5 words out of 5 for this novel. Are sparks flying between Chloe and Simon? Or Chloe and Derek?

Thirteen Reasons Why

What if someone you knew and loved died? She killed herself. Then about 2 weeks later you get a parcel in the mail with no return address with 7 tapes inside. Each has a number, 1-13. Thirteen sides with a story to be said. When you first played the tapes a voice rang out that you could easily identify, your heart throbs when you think of who it is. Hannah Baker. The girl who ceased to be. She has a story to tell, one that will change Clay Jensen's life forever. She has listed 13 reasons why she killed herself, and if you listened to the tapes you could find out what you did wrong to cause her death. Clay loved Hannah. Why would the tapes be sent to him? But still he listens because she asks them too. And if they don't someone is watching them and if they don't pass it on to the next person on the tape then a second set will be posted publicly. Then they would all be blamed. All day he listens, and waits for his turn. Could they have stopped her if she had let them in? Could Clay's love still sitting the the desk in the middle of Mr. Porters class? Could Hannah have saved herself? Wow, I loved this book. It was amazing. Who would really want to find out you were one of the reasons your friend killed themselves? Really well written, so 4.5 words out of 5.

The Reckoning By Kelly Armstrong

The world isn't as it seems. To every light there is darkness, and Chloe Saunders and her supernatural friends are stuck in the middle of a battle unknown to most. Chloe is a necromancer, stronger than all the others. She can raise the dead just by summoning a ghost. She is the weakest of the bunch but she is willing to stand up and fight for all the supernatural children like them, different. The Edison group, an evil corporation, has mutated their genes to make them better. But also casting them aside from the rest of their races. The only thing that is keeping them going and in this fight is the knowledge that one of their friends from Lyle House is still their along with Chloe's aunt. Will they be rescued in time? Or will they be killed off like the other supernatural kids who where deemed too dangerous? An excellent addition to the first two in the series. I sadly finished this book in one days time because I'm hooked. I give this book a 5 words out of 5. I hope she keeps on writing this series. Chloe and Derek, I can't wait for your future!

Wicked

Trouble is brewing in the air.An accident has happened. One that Holly might not recover from completely. People are dead, ones she cares about. Now her unknown aunt has come to take her to a foreign place. Will Holly be able to adjust to a family she never knew existed. And also a hidden life Holly didn't believe was real. Could she be Isabeau, a witch who died with her lover in 1666? There's a battle between the light and the dark, she needs to pick a side fast, since she's caught in the middle. A great book that I personally got from Mrs. CPM. I personally give this book a 4.5 words out of 5. I can't wait to read the next one.

Acceleration by Graham McNamee

Something bad is going to happen. But only seventeen year old Duncan knows. Nobody believed him when he brought in a diary of a soon to be serial killer. A diary a cover that feels like human skin. Disturbing knowledge is hidden in this book. But who is the mysterious writer? All Duncan can do is find the soon to be victim. But which one is it? Two trains leading into danger. Can Duncan stop this lunatic before the time ticks away. The diary has been sitting there for around two weeks now. Is Duncan and his friends too late? Or will he be just in time? And excellent book that defines and identifies a serial killers mind. I give it a 5 words out of 5 for the extreme action that befalls these friends. Can be found in your school library, check it out!

Flying Solo

There is a school. A school with a small sixth grade classroom, but no teacher. What if for a whole school day you ran the classes by yourself. For 6 hours you were in charge. There are different sides to this story, all of them contain one simple rule they must all listen to. KIDS RULE! Could it just be an experiment or just a mix up? But one things for sure, we are responsible in our own ways and we all RULE! I give this book a 5 words out of 5 because kids do rule. A must read for those of you who wonder what it would be like to not have a teacher! I know my class wouldn't be like this!
