Julie

I'm finally home with my father, I have missed him so much since I got lost in the wilderness for months, surviving only because of my beloved wolf pack. They saved my life, and I shall always protect them and love them, just like my father. But father has given up many of our Eskimo ways for that ones that his new wife has in Minnesota. He owns snowmobiles and now is relying on industry. Maybe I was hoping that nothing would change, that father wouldn't have chosen to marry a woman that is not Eskimo, maybe I was hoping that he would be like I left him. He is still my father, and Ellen can't be so bad; it still hurts to know that Kapugen is willing to shoot any wolf that attacks his herd, even if they are the ones that saved my life. I must save them if I must, they are my family too, but will I have to give up my father again to do so? I just got him back.

This book was an excellent addition to the first book; this book carries on directly after the first so its helpful if you read them in order. I recommend this book to dog lovers or people who really love animals and they way live. 5 words out of 5 since I was a huge fan of the first book. Might be found in the school library, ask Mrs. Yusik for confirmation.

Parvana's Journey by Deborah Ellis

He's dead, and now I'm all alone. What will I do now? I could continue on, looking for mother and my siblings, but it hurts too much to think that if they ask, I'll have to say that he died; its all my fault. I must find them, the Taliban can't stop me, even if I am a girl that is dressing like a boy; I'll find my family, just like I'll continue to make letters to Shauzia about what I'm going through, and hoping that she made it to France and is happy and safe. I know that everything won't be like it use to when I find mother and give her the magazine, and I know that a magical place where children don't starve doesn't exist in Afghanistan, but every journey can be defined not by the means of travelling or how long it takes, its what happens and who you meet on the way there. I've got three other children with me now, they are all apart of my family, and I shall travel with them until we find what we're looking for.

This is a really good story that I had to read for my ELA class, and I'm happy that I chose it. It really shows you how wrong some parts of the world can get if we don't help; it gets pretty sad if the constant planes flying over head dropping bombs is something that a kid can get used to. 4 words out of 5. Can be found in the school library.

Willow

They're dead, and its all my fault. I relive that night again and again, I can still remember the sights and the sounds. I always expected them to die when I moved out of the house, when I didn't need them so desperately, but now I'm my brothers problem. He tends to think I'm getting better ever since I met Guy, and sometimes I feel better too; but now he knows about my secret way of not feeling. He looks at the marks with disgust, I don't like them either but they mark a hidden war that has gone from inside of me, to scarring the flesh. I need them, they make sure I don't have to feel the guilt that is just one thought away, they make sure I don't have to cry. My razors are cheap and they work; just because I'm not strong enough to deal with the pain head on, doesn't mean I want to die. My brother would be devastated if he knew, but is it better that he has to take care of a kid that's not his, and his own daughter? I wish he would just call me the murderer I am already. I liked this book tons, it has lots of feeling and sometimes can confuse you. I give this book a 4.5 words out of five because I can't imagine why her parents would make her drive on a night like that. Ask Mrs. Yuzik if we have it in the library; and if we don't, ask her to get it for the library.

Our Plane is Down by Doug Paton

Who would have ever guessed that a guy who's afraid of heights, and his little sister who is always in trouble, would get into a plane accident. Here we are, in the middle of a B.C. forest with the pilot unconscious, no actual food, and the plane had fallen off a cliff and then exploded. This all wouldn't have happened if Missi and I weren't so stupid when life was easier. Now I have to get over my fear of heights and find help before something even worse can get us other than the millions of mosquitoes at night. This book was interesting, but wasn't really something I would generally read. I give this book a 2 words out of 5 because it was super short and could have been a lot more descriptive. This would be a pretty good book to read if you were having to do a short novel stuff, but only a short one. This book can be found in the school library.

Tell

My stepfather is dead, and my brother Jamie died a few years ago. Now its just me and my mother, but the police aren't going to give up the investigation. A few questions are asked and then I'm a suspect, it seems my poker face isn't as great as I thought. But I never killed Phil, honestly. I never really liked the guy, but that doesn't mean I'm going to shoot him. A lie can always be caught if someone knows what tell you have. This was an interesting story that actually taught me a little bit about poker. I give this book a 3 words out of 5 because the characters could be a little more developed. This book can be found in the school library.

Battle of the Bands by K.L. Denman

Music is my passion, and my life. Playing guitar for my band The Lunar Ticks is a dream come true, if only we could win that contest. The one band that is a huge competition of ours is awesome and killer, and so is she. Rowan is a mystery to me, she is someone that I want to get to know more; but I can't let her know that. The band is up and ready for the contest, but my moon lit walks during the full moon aren't taking me to life like it usually does. I want to write a song about passion and desires, which makes me think about Rowan. Whether we win or lose, Rowan will be the biggest prize I can't afford to lose. A really good book that takes you to a group of friends that have talent, but working together can make anything better. I give this book a 4 words out of 5 because it was interesting and some of the songs spoken of in this book can be very meaningful. Can be found in the school library.

Scum

He's my brother, but he was no angel. Danny was shot in a bar and everyone in my family was devastated. Nobody saw anything, nobody heard anything at the bar. I want to know who killed him and torn apart my family from the seams. If Danny were still alive I would tell him how stupid he is, saying that he'll never get caught. The police know who he is, making nobody care that he died; but I care. I will find out who killed him, but will things go too far before I learn the truth? You'll never know with the people that Danny hung out with. This was a really interesting book, I personally couldn't figure out why the boy got shot in the beginning but it grew clearer as the book progressed. I give this book a 4 words out of 5 for all the suspense. Can be found in the school library.
